The House of Metaxa distillery was originally in Piraeus, but the spirit’s fame and demand made necessary a move to newer, more spacious establishments necessary. In the outskirts of Athens, in a location that benefits from the nearby cool mountain breezes, the Metaxa cellars found a new home.

This is where that the Muscat wines and fine distillates mature slowly to reach their ideal character and be finally selected to become Metaxa.

Constantinos Raptis first makes his selection of the Muscat wines from Samos, chosen for their aromatic concentration and intensity. He then chooses the fine wine distillates for their character and elegance.

The Muscat wines and wine distillates are aged separately in oak casks until he decides they are ready to be married. A bouquet of Mediterranean botanicals brings the final touch.
